Approximately 21,000 students are currently enrolled at the University of Freiburg, spending their student days in one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Upon graduation, many say good-bye to the university, the city of Freiburg, their student lifestyle, and even to the people they got to know here. A new life begins. In order for the university to maintain its academic and personal contact to these former students, Alumni Freiburg was established. The origins of the word come from the Latin work “Alumnus”, which means pupil. The people in the alumni office provide a method for contacting former students from all faculties, institutes, and across all nationalities and generations. Active and emeritus professors and employees of the university are also a part of the alumni community.
Through “friend raising”, Alumni Freiburg is determined to establish a strong international network for its 250,000 former students. Alumni Freiburg e.V. is a non-profit organisation associated with the alumni office. Its members actively support all forms of academic pursuit at the university. Both of these associations are connected to the administrative office of the university through the “Communications and Press” office.
