About the English Department

The University of Freiburg English Department is one of the best departments in the nation – not only in terms of its diverse academic course offerings, but also in terms of the quality of education provided by its instructors. It is for this reason that the University of Freiburg English Department has repeatedly been ranked by the Centre for Higher Education Development as one of Germany’s top departments over the past years.

The English Department is home to 40 faculty members in addition to nearly 60 administrative staff and student teaching assistants. With its 2000 students, the English Department is one of the largest department in the School of Philology (Philologische Fakultät), second only to the German Department (3000 students).
