Magnetic resonance imaging overview

The MRI activities of the Korvink group

Vision

My vision is to use microengineering to bring innovation to magnetic resonance measurement equipment. I think that achieving precision in manufacture, combined with ultimate cost-effectiveness, will achieve high end measurement systems that can be single-use followed by recycling. Such an approach has the following advantages:

Imagine that magnetic resonance spectrometers are as ubiquitous as personal computers. On your desk, affordable, 10 cm cube. This will completely change the way we use this wonderful measurement technique; it take it out of the hospital or the chemistry lab, and bring it into general circulation, like a barometer in the home.
  • Low cost - high precision

  • High throughput NMR or MRI on very small samples

  • Applications in life sciences and chemistry

  • Combinations with other microintegrated measurement tools

Small scale MRI sensors

We are working towards MRI sensors for very small samples (cells and small organisms. The work is described at the  Micro MR Group Site

Functional MRI head scanning

We are developing a range of technologies for a functional head scanner based on a massively parallel coil array, see INUMAC
