Goals and Core Values

The European Network for Heritage Interpretation (Interpret Europe) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the interpretation and presentation of the European natural and cultural heritage through a continent-wide association of individuals and supporting organisations.

The goals of the network are:

  • To enable effective communications between all those that practice and support heritage interpretation;

  • To facilitate co-operation between different interest groups and develop and co-ordinate joint initiatives;

  • To promote wider support for, and create a better understanding of, interpretative practice and the benefits that it offers for the quality management of heritage resources;

  • To raise the quality of interpretation and presentation through a programme of activities;

  • To become recognised as a leading European Association of professional bodies and individuals.

The values held by the network:

  • We consider the natural and cultural heritage, and its diversity, an important part of European identity.

  • We strive for a better understanding of these natural and cultural heritage resources and the essential role of professional interpretation.

  • We will promote and support enhancement of the quality and appeal of heritage attractions for visitors/tourists and local communities.

  • We will actively support sustainable development, especially sustainable tourism, and the appropriate regeneration of urban & rural areas.

  • We will promote active interdisciplinary networking and integration of sectors.
