The Interpret Europe Network

Interpret Europe is an international network of individuals dealing with the interpretation of Europe’s environmental and cultural heritage. The network was set up in year 2000 as an informal coordination body in order to support and initiate interpretive activities Europe-wide. Interpret Europe is implemented through the Network Secretariat in Freiburg.

Our Mission

The mission of Interpret Europe is to encourage and facilitate new and wider forms of cooperation between stakeholders in the field of heritage interpretation. The activities of Interpret Europe aim to meet the Europe-wide need for sustainable development and for the conservation of our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

Objectives

The priority objectives of Interpret Europe is to contribute to the development of professional Heritage Interpretation by supporting:

• research activities in order to raise quality in the field of Heritage Interpretation;development of recommendations and standards;

• trainings and education – “life-long learning”;

• know-ledge transfer and awareness raising campaigns.

Professional Heritage Interpretation is a means to enhance:

• environmental friendly high quality  tourism;

• conservation and prevention of our rural and urban heritage;

• the identity of a common Europe and its natural and cultural diversity.

Members

Membership is open to all individuals and organisations working and researching in the field of Heritage Interpretation, environmental education, environmental and cultural protection and conservation, tourism, and  policy making. Membership is also open to persons and organisation outside these areas who simply are interested to know more about Heritage Interpretation and the activities of Interpret Europe.

Vision

Interpret Europe is momentarily an informal network of people and organisations working in Heritage Interpretation. But preparations for the foundation of an official European Association for Heritage Interpretation are in full swing!
It is planned to be formally established in next time.
