Perhaps your service is located within a wider tourism region or protected area. You now want to ensure that the wide range of interpretive provisions in that area complement one another and reach different target groups. If this is the case, you should commission an interpretive strategy before you tackle individual interpretive provisions.

Working with regional actors, an interpretive strategy sets out:

  • which topics can be developed
  • at which locations or along which routes
  • using which interpretive techniques
  • and addressing which target groups.

This systematic approach is particularly important for destinations wishing to increase their focus on sustainable quality tourism based on the natural and cultural heritage of an area.
