Arbeitsbereich "Waldwirtschaft in den Tropen und Subtropen"
Leitung: Dr. Benno Pokorny
The research group „Forestry in the Tropics and Subtropics“ deals with the question if and in what way natural resources (in particular forests and trees) in tropical and subtropical regions could be effectively used for sustainable development for the benefit of local people. The research group analyses actor-specific strategies for natural resource management in different development contexts to understand related decision making processes. This includes an assessment of the conditions and measures to influence these processes, in particular those oriented to poverty alleviation and forest conservation, as well as the reflection on theoretical models to explain empirical observations, preferably gathered in transdisciplinary comparative research approaches. A special focus is on the development of theoretical models for the strengthening and promotion of endogenous development potentials.
